This spring semester, Project Life Movement (PLM) partnered with Campbell University’s Pre-Med Allied Health Honors Society and Hispanic Association for a tabling event on campus. Trinity, a member of the Pre-Med organization, reached out to PLM’s donor coordinator for the Triangle Region, Gabby Ybarra, to schedule a volunteer event for the group’s members because she felt that it went along with the mission of their student organization. They wanted to ensure that members could participate in an event that was specifically related to the medical field.
The event was held at midday in the Student Union at Campbell. During the short event, the groups were able to sign up a total of 70 students to the global stem cell/marrow registry. The volunteers were ecstatic to hit a record number of 61 new sign-ups within the first hour of the event. These new potential donors provide the opportunity to find matches for blood cancer patients across the country.
Through educating others on the registry, Trinity was able to gain extensive knowledge on how signing up can benefit patients with blood cancer. “It is important to know your information about the event when introducing it to a stranger.” Project Life Movement is looking forward to partnering again with this group to try to save some more lives.
