In October of 2022, Project Life Movement’s campus ambassadors at Davidson College hosted a “Spooky Swab” tabling event where they added 72 students to the global stem cell/marrow registry. Of these students, 5 have gone on to transplant for a patient – an incredible statistic for one event! The most recent of which, Annie Sheridan, donated her bone marrow to a young cancer patient.
Annie was an undergraduate student at Davidson studying economics when she decided to join the registry in 2022. This past December, she received a call from our partner organization, Gift of Life, asking if she would be willing to donate her bone marrow to a 1-year-old girl battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She said “yes” to the call to of being a life-saving match, which led her to Washington DC for her donation. Annie understood the impact this would have for that patient, her family, and their community.
About her experience, Annie said, “I am extremely grateful to have been able to donate because it can truly be a life changing event for someone in need.” She hopes that she inspires others to join the registry and consider donating themselves if given the opportunity. Project Life Movement is thankful to Annie for agreeing to give the greatest gift of all: the gift of tomorrow to such a young patient!
